My Coaching Philosophies

The Three F’s

  • Focus - It is imperative that the athlete stays focused during training and competition as volleyball is an incredibly fast and mental sport that can get away from you quickly if you let it, aim to out smart your opponent as well as out work them

  • Form - In order to prevent general injuries and especially overuse injuries I specifically look into the body mechanics and movements each athlete makes to ensure they are moving efficiently and safely

  • Fun - I truly believe everyone plays their best volleyball when they are having fun and having fun is why we all started playing to begin with

Overall my main philosophies stem from building an athletes confidence as confidence in ones self is one of the most important factors in believing you can achieve any goal you set forth. I focus on positive coaching styles, respectful communication, and technical corrections in order to achieve this. I enjoy fostering a relatively relaxed environment during the private and smaller coaching sessions, I encourage my athletes to take risks and not be afraid to fail or make a mistake. My goal is to not only have the athletes leave my court a better volleyball player but also someone who believes in themselves a little extra and hopefully overall, feels like a better person.

My Volleyball Journey

It all started back in Texas at age 10 where I first fell in love with the sport. Standing 5’9” in 5th grade it was a no brainer to try volleyball when basketball just wasn’t cutting it; it was also a no brainer that I began playing as a middle blocker. After freshman year of high school ended and I was still 5’9” I switched positions to setter where I stayed throughout the rest of my career. After graduating high school in Texas I went on to play varsity volleyball at Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, New Jersey for 4 years. During my tenure on the team I handed out over 2,000 total assists, we visited the Sweet 16 twice, had won 4 conference championships, and the AVCA named me to the All New York Region team as well as an honorable mention All-American. I was selected as an ECAC Metro Second Team All-Star as well as selected to the All Conference First Team. In my highest achieving season I handed out 1,266 assists, the third-highest single-season total in program history and good for 11th nationally across the NCAA. After graduating college I moved to the Bay Area to begin my career in construction management. After a few months away from the sport I knew I needed to return and decided to begin coaching at RedRock Volleyball Club where I still coach today.
